“I heard the kittens screaming of fear in a bag he was carrying over his shoulder. I ran up to him, jumped and scratch his hand that was all I could do before he kicked me”.
“You didn’t ask.”
“O silly woman, come here with the joke.” Quickly Daddy Xmas rang Mr. Sandman and explained what the situation was. When he finished the call he said, “All is settled, he is going to sprinkle his magic stardust upon the man tonight.”
“Thank Goodness,” said Mammy while she took a breath of relief.
And so it happened the dark eyed man had a dream that same night which made his heart soft and full with love again. At Christmas Eve Daddy Xmas put Puck in his back pack and set off to deliver his presents. “Stop, please! I like to go with you,” sounded a voice behind him. It was Oisin. “Very well,” Daddy said. He opened his back pack for Oisin to get in.
When they arrived at Puck’s home Daddy climbed on to the roof and lowered himself down via the chimney. In the living room a black and white cat was washing herself.
Opening his back pack, Daddy Xmas took Puck into his arm. “There you go little fellow.” Puck was wearing a red ribbon around his neck.
Oisin had jumped from the back himself. As soon as the black and white cat saw him she cried, “O Oisin, I’m so glad to see you again.”
“Hi love, here’s your child back.”
“Your child? No, it’s our child,” Mammy cat said. “And you my dear, come here. It at the looks of it you need a wash.”
“Nice postcard you have here,” Daddy said while he took the card in his hand.
“It’s from Dolly, Puck’s sister, she found a new home a few days ago.”
“A new home?” Puck asked surprised.
“Yes, all your brothers and sisters got a new home, except you,” Mammy cat explained.
“O, is it now?” Daddy Xmas asked. Without waiting for an answer he said, “Okay, I’ll best be off.”
“Thanks for minding my son,” Mammy cat winked at Daddy.
When he was gone Mammy cat, Oisin and Puck all curled up together on a soft chair. The next morning the little girl couldn’t believe her eyes. “Mammy, Daddy, look!” She cried. “Look, Puck is back and there is another cat on the chair with Dusty too.”
“Ssst, don’t wake them up,” the little girl’s daddy said.
“This is the best Christmas I ever had,” the little girl jumped up and down of joy.
