The Man arrives back home to face his past.
The lights of Seattle were seen as the boys finally woke up. Joey attempted to stretch out his arms and yawn but Wilson and Joey stuck them back into his own lap. “We made it,” The Man finally yawned.
“Yep, where’d ya like off boys?” Nathanial asked politely.
“Well there’s a truck stop over in our neighborhood by that round restaurant. Denny’s or something. I forget the name of it.”
“You know which street it’s on?” asked The Man.
Joey said, “Yeah, I remember, it’s off Market and 19th. Where we at?”
“Here’s a sign, hold on…31st….we have a few more to go. We’re on Market now,” Wilson said who knew the streets well since he’d roamed them for the last couple of years.
“Okay boys better prepare to jump out. Get your bags ready because I gotta keep on truckin’ for another few hours.”
“Okay. Hey thanks for the ride Nathanial. We really appreciated it. I like your hat,” The Man summed it all up.
“Thanks buddy, well, here’s as close as I can get to 21st. I’ll stop at the light here and you guys can get out. Take care now, it’s a big world. And it might be a good idea to give up espionage, pretty dangerous job. Well adios amigos.” Nathanial took off his hat and put it back on again.
The Man had never seen anyone do that before, like symbol or something he thought, but a symbol of what, goodbye? He shrugged his shoulders and shook hands with Nathanial before he got his bag out in preparation for his big exit. He hoped he’d see Nathanial again someday. He reminded him of Packard.
“Okay, get ready to jump,” Joey said, waiting for the light to turn red. The boys opened up their heavy door and as quickly as they could, jumped out with their bags much heavier than them. They ran to get out of the way of the suction of the big rig’s wheels and waited for the light to turn green. Nathanial sped away full blast and honked the horn and wave at the boys standing on the corner.
“That was interesting. Well, two more blocks and we’re almost home anyway. Got any smokes left Joey?” asked Wilson.
