Carly has learned who she is and what happened to her mother, and now must learn to accept her new role in life. But there is someone who is not going to let that happen easily.

While Carly mourned, another raged. His angry storm could be calmed by no one and few dared to try. Aros was the king and had been for centuries, not because he was a fair king. Not by any means. He was still king because not a soul would dare to challenge him. Now he was threatened, and he was not happy about it.

” Idiots! Your are all worthless! Can you not do one simple thing? All I asked was that you destroy a little girl!”

” My sincerest apologies, My Lord. It appeared she was already gone when we arrived.”

” Excuses! That’s all I hear from you, excuses! Are you so incapable of doing things for yourselves that you couldn’t track a mere child into the forest?”

At this, his soldiers looked ashamed. They stood in silence while Aros stormed about his chamber bellowing at them. When a messenger stepped into the room he threw a dagger across the room towards him. It hit the door with a thud, pining his hat above him.

” What is it now? This had better be important or I just might kill the messenger!”

He gulped, eyes wide with fear and said, ” I beg pardon, My Lord. I have an urgent message for you. I bring you word from your scouts. The girl you seek was seen in the woods by her home.”

” Excellent,” He turned to his soldiers, ” Now do it right this time!”

As they hastily left the room the messenger cleared his throat.

Aros turned at the sound, ” What? Still here?”

” Your Majesty, it’s about the girl. She was seen in the company of Kiev, sir.”

” Kiev, huh? Interesting. This just might be fun. Ready my mount and notify my men that I will be coming along.”

” Yes, Sire.” At that the messenger left the room, leaving his hat on the door.

Aros walked to the window and looked out towards the distant woods. Well, my old enemy, we shall meet again. A smile spread across his face as he turned from the window and began preparing for his journey. I’ve waited a long time for this. Now I will finally have the chance to destroy you Kiev.

Outside the castle he strode to his mount, a large winged creature with the head of an eagle, the body of a lion, and the tail of a scorpion. It was a griffon and Aros’ army rode them into battle because they were fierce fighters and could carry the men great distances. His griffon was saddled and wore the armor and colors of his kingdom. The rest of his retinue was mounted and they too wore the red and black that identified them as King Aros’ soldiers. They lifted off the ground with the thundering beat of many giant wings and turned in the direction of the woods and Carly’s new home.
