Jack vets a guy.
When they finished he got up to leave after telling them if they needed anything else moved they were to call him. At the door he turned and asked awkwardly. “Who is the girl with the nice smile?”
“What girl?”
“The girls that brought the food. The one that said she would bring you milk tomorrow morning.”
“Pam Lattic.” Sandra offered.
Before Ken could respond Jack chimed in. “Son. She is a good Christian girl. If you have any kinky ideas, forget them. I may be missing a leg but if you do something to hurt her you better have your insurance paid up.”
Ken was taken back, “Mr. Farley. She has the nicest smile. She wouldn’t have anything to do with me.”
“I have an idea how you can get to see her if you really want to.”
“Yes?”
“Sunday morning. Meet us here at eight. Go along to church.”
“I’ll think about it.” He turned and left.
Jack closed the door. “If he doesn’t show up for church I will tell Jim Lattic to keep him away from his daughter.”
“Jack, I’d like to go to the hospital to see Sarah and Andria.”
He looked at his watch. It was nearly seven. “If we leave now we can get there for about a half hour.”
“That will be fine.”
Jack stopped at the front door to get Sandra out of the car. The police officer recognized him and motioned toward a handicapped space right at the door. “Hi Jack. Put it here.” He helped Jack get Sandra into her chair and then pushed her to the level part of the hospital.
They went up in the elevator. The door was shut so they went down the hall. When they got to the lounge Andria was there with Serena and Elise. Sandra hugged them all. “Where is Sarah and Andy?”
“Mom and dad are in the room talking. They asked if I could come out here with Aunt Serena and Elise. We’ve been making some rounds. Let me show you.” She stood with her crutches and took two steps with them in her one hand. “See Grandma, I can walk without them.”
“Yes. You can. And it will get better. Keep at it but be careful. Falling will set you back. We want you to keep moving forward. How is your mom doing?”
