The doctor who performed the surgery comes in to see the three women.
And after a shooting spree of three in one night the sniper lays off.
Jeff Zirkle had major surgery and was taken to a room and placed under police guard. Apartment 2D was also placed under guard. When Tanya Senft came home about three thirty in the afternoon she was taken to the station for questioning. Among other things they asked if she knew where he was on the night of the shootings. She claimed she and Jeff were at Lone Star till after one AM. Within an hour the detectives verified his alibi with the people at the restaurant. The manager remembered him. He had been nasty to people all night and had become disruptive just before he left. As soon as this was checked out Tanya was released. Her apartment was still a crime scene so she could not return to it. A couple of officers accompanied her to the apartment and watched as she picked up clothes for the next couple of days. It was a mystery why he fired on the officers. Had Jeff answered the door and talked to the police he would most likely be back home by now with nothing more than a reprimand from his parole officer. Now he was in big trouble.
In the middle of the afternoon the mothers of the three wounded female police officers came in to spend time with their daughters. By evening several members of the police force dropped in for a few minutes to see them.
That evening on roll call the watch officers made some alternate assignments. All of the remaining female officers on duty for the evening were not to be exposed by being on foot patrol. There was no way to determine if women were being targeted but since they comprised less than one fourth of the force, three attacks on women seemed more than coincidence. In two of the incidents a male officer was also on full view when the shooting took place. In the third incident the second officer was also female. Until this person was caught there could be no chances taken.
The night passed without incident.
