After any traumatic injury the person must come to grips with what happened and how to go on.
“You don’t do anything else like cave exploring or mountain climbing?” Penny was interested.
“Sort of on the mountain climbing, some of the hiking we do is over some really rough terrain. I have hiked all of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania and Maryland since my amputation and some of Virginia and little of a couple other states. Some of that was on crutches, some on a pylon like you are wearing. These are really durable and you can carry a spare tube in case you fall and break a leg. Ask your friendly two legged girl to replace a broken leg on the trail. I do wear a better socket than you have and a knee I can manually release to sit. But then you will probably get one of them soon.”
“You’re kidding.”
“Nope. I stay away from the rock climbing, but then I didn’t do that before the amputation but I know three amputees, one of them a girl who do it. I just like biking an hiking better.”
Margie looked at her. “So I shouldn’t sell my bike or my back packing stuff yet?”
If you develop allergies that kick up when you get outdoors I would suggest it but not just because you have a leg amputation. I would suggest you hold them for let least a year. If you want to see the modification I have for my bike I can give you a name of a bike shop that can do it for you.”
