In anticipation of the three wounded coming home the three partners take it in hand to insure they will have what they need. In the process all three admit they have abused their power as officers more in that one day than in their years on the force.
“It’s OK by me if I’m not taking advantage of you. It sounds like a good idea how do we do it?”
“The dealer found out what I want to do when I told him I was going to pass on the trade for his car. He said drop in with the cars and he’d re-title them for nothing but the state fees.”
With that the girl that had just been willing to wrestle her brother to a pin hopped to him and grabbed his neck and hugged him. “Thanks but you didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to for you and for me. You know how much the girls like a red car.”
“I’m told guys like blue. I guess I’ll have to have the gas pedal fixed for me.”
He bowed his head sheepishly, “It already is. We took care of that yesterday. One of the guys at the police garage did it.”
She hugged him and cried. “I don’t deserve a brother like you.”
“Pen, please forgive me, for not coming in to the hospital more. I couldn’t imagine seeing you hurt.”
“I knew and I knew you would be there when the time was right. By the way, I heard you were sweet on some gal in 911, I think they said her name was Felicia. Someone told me that maybe the reason you weren’t in to see me was because you were spending time with her. Is that a rumor?”
He looked down, “Well, she is kind of nice.”
“Little bro, if you do anything wrong with her I will make you pay. She is class. Her dad is a doctor but more than that she is one super nice girl.”
“Sis. There is no way I am going to mess up with someone like her. I’m probably not good enough for her.”
“Well maybe if you think you aren’t, you just may be, marginally at best.” She grinned. “Actually, I’m glad you are going out with her. There are a lot of creeps out there. She would be better off with you than one of them. Do you know Margie’s boyfriend walked out on her last week? Said he couldn’t handle her having one leg.”
The statement cut through Paul like a knife. It took him a while to answer. “Sis, I never thought about it that way but I assure you I wouldn’t walk out on a girl for that.”
“I wouldn’t expect you to. I think my little brother is better than that.”
“Thanks Pen, it is really good coming from you.”
