Less than five minutes later she was back with Sylvia.  “Cliff.  Do you want to tell Sylvia about the new organization?  She doesn’t understand me.”  Brittany had a fiendish smile.

“Yes, Sylvia, for the next six weeks you are going to be working for Brittany.  And your probation will continue till then.  Because there have been some complaints your probation will be extended 4 weeks.  If your performance doesn’t improve she can fire you at any time.”

“You mean I have to work for a woman.”  Brittany would have expected this remark from some men but not from a woman.  “Every time I have worked for a woman they were hard on me.”

“I’m not going to be hard on you.  I’ve seen my last patient till one.  Let’s go to lunch.”  Brittany headed toward the door.  Sylvia followed.

As they went out the door Sylvia said, “It’s good to get away from those gimps.”

Brittany turned to her as the door closed.  “Did you arrange for someone to cover for you while you are gone?”

“No.  Why should I?”

Brittany resisted the urge to strangle her.  “Starting immediately, unless you in serious mortal jeopardy or are likely to soil yourself, you know, wet or crap in your pants, you will find coverage before you leave that desk.  It must be covered at all times.  If nobody will cover for you, page me.  I will make sure someone does.”

“What if I have to take a bathroom break?”

“You get coverage, then you go.”

“Even if….”

“If you are going to make a mess, fine, go.  Use some common sense.”

“You sure are hard nosed.”

“Yep.  Now go back in and get coverage, I’ll bring the car around.”

Three minutes later Sylvia came out the front door and got into the car.  “You know I just asked Carol if she would cover and she said ‘Yes’, just like that.  The last time she told me she didn’t have time.”
