Margie’s boyfriend walked out on her when she was in the hospital. Now Barb meets him and he wants a favor.
“And I not only looked at the pictures, I read what these women are doing. They are real, aren’t they?”
“Well some of them aren’t but most are.”
“There is even one that is an amputee like Margie that is modeling and one that lost both legs above the knees is a stunt woman. Margie is better looking than any of them, she has nicer legs, I mean leg, and she is. You know, as a person she is really nice.”
“And you dumped her without thinking about what she still had to offer.”
“I’m a jerk.”
“We agree on that. But do you want her?”
“Yes.”
“Enough to crawl and grovel?”
“Yes.”
“Then I would suggest crawling and groveling. There are few women in town that are any prettier and even fewer that see anything worthwhile in you.”
“You’re right. I am a complete idiot. You really think she would have me back?”
“She shouldn’t even let you talk to her the way you hurt her, but you can try.”
“I will, would you?”
“Hell, no. I’m not going to help you. Do your own groveling.”
He sat there and looked hurt. She smiled and extended her hand, “If you really plan to be there for her always, I’ll ask her to at least listen to the begging. But you try once first. On second thought I will ask her to at least answer the phone and talk to you.”
“Thanks, that is more than I have the right to ask.”
Later in the afternoon Barb mentioned the conversation to Margie. “I don’t ever want to talk to him again.”
“I think he knows he screwed up really bad. Why not just talk to him.”
“Well, If he calls and he crawls.”
“I told him crawling and groveling was in order.”
Margie laughed, “Good. He will have to.”
That evening Gary called Margie. After a short conversation she agreed to dinner. He picked her up at her apartment and they went out for the evening. When they came back she invited him in. They talked till almost midnight.
