A reunion…
When she was gone Sandra looked over at Sam. “Do we have enough cake and ice cream to take over for them?”
“I’m sure we do.” Sam got up and found a couple of plates and fixed them. When she was done Sandra motioned to the others. “We need to get out of here. I’m going to stop at the room then pick up my things and head out.”
Jack pushed Sandra’s chair, with her arm in a cast she couldn’t handle it herself. She could walk but it was too far.
Two nurses accompanied them. They seemed happy to see the visit. Dottie heard them coming. When they got to the door she motioned them in. “I was just telling them about you.”
Sallie looked at Sarah. “You tried to drag me. I saw how small you were. I kept thinking, such a small woman to be so strong and brave.”
“I’m not that brave.”
“You can’t tell me that. And your daughter.” She looked at Andria. “You are something awesome.”
Andria shook her head.
“Well I know better.”
“But I was scared.”
Dottie chimed in, “Scared maybe. A coward, never. Girls, the lady here is Mrs. Farley, she is the one who shot the woman.”
Ellie had been looking from one to the other. She looked up at Sam. “Are you the cop that was on the TV last night?”
Sam dropped her head. “Yes.”
“Mom. Do you know who this is?”
“No.”
“This is the cop that shot the dealers from New York.”
Sam hung her head.
Dottie reached over and lifted her chin with her finger. “Don’t you ever hang your head.” It reminded Sam of her mother talking to her. “I lost two nephews to that bunch of drug dealers before we moved down here. The one woman you shot killed one of them, the other died of an OD. You are as much a hero in our household as they are.”
