The fifth and final chapter of my short novel.

The Path after Death

Chapter V: Final Destination

I’ve been walking towards the tower-like construction for almost a week and it didn’t seem to be any closer. I didn’t know what to do. The only think I could do was to keep going forward. As I was walking a black sphinx flew towards me from the sky.

“Where are you heading to mortal?”

I told him that I was heading towards the tower seen in the distance and I showed him the ring.

“That ring… Fine I’ll take you there but once we reach our destination you have to give me that ring you wear.”

I asked him what does he intend to do with it. He looked into my eyes and told me:

“I have to take the ring away from those lands as it is too dangerous to those who find it. I’m surprised you are able to carry it.”

I promised him I’ll give him the ring, then I climbed on his back and we took flight. As we were flying I had a clearer image of the world in which I was now living. The cracks on the ground and the rivers of lava reminded me of the day in which I died. I started to wonder who my murderer was but I realized I had no way to find out.

“We reached our destination”
Indeed we were now standing before an immense tower made of granite. It was so tall you couldn’t see its top and on it there were different drawings and symbols.

“When you will put your hand on the tower you will be sent away from here. Now it’s time for you to give me the ring.”

I gave him the ring only after he promised me that he was going to take it away from this dreadful place. Then I put my hand on the tower and it began to shine with a white light.

I closed my eyes and when I opened them again I was standing in front of my house. It was the day of my death. I decided to go back to bed like nothing happened and continue my life.
