The lasers were great but they use enormous amounts of power.
Bobbie looked at the station status when they were inside. Power reserves were at their lowest point since the first solar panels went on line. During the construction phase they had only completed one of the three arrays. To get the missiles and lasers on line the solar array construction was deferred. To effectively use the lasers and support the larger crew they needed the other two. They now needed to complete them. Only four of the crew could be out at a time because the station could be called to battle and two of them were limited to four hour shifts. Bobbie and Jeff carried much of this construction as they were faster. Sharon Dart, Andrew King, Heather Warren, and Ari Weiser split the coverage and support EVA’s.
It was just plain grueling work. The first array took twelve days. They had roughly twenty four days of hard work to go. They were now using stored hydrogen and oxygen to produce all but the basic electrical needs of the station. And that resource that had grown when only the original two were on board was now dwindling.
