Marianna returns to the circus to attempt a rescue.

I tried sleeping, but old ghosts haunted my dreams mixed with my newly made memory of the mysterious ‘Tiger Man.’ I tried forgetting him, but the picture of his face remained on my mind. I abruptly rose from my bed and bolted out the door.

I would have taken the truck if I thought it wouldn’t wake Carla. I didn’t need her chasing after me and trying to stop me from doing what I intended to. Returning to the circus was the only thing I could think about doing.

I didn’t realize how hard a hike it was traveling down the mountain from our cabin home. I scraped my knees and elbows several times, but with my powers in tact I was able to heal myself rather quickly.

I walked down the long narrow unlit roads without fear. The darkness had always been my ally, and the light my enemy. At least I didn’t have to wear those awful protective glasses to shield my sensitive corneas. After all the drug abuse this body had endured, I was surprised a mind had the ability to survive.

When I finally reached the carnival I saw it almost completely barren. There was a security guard standing at the gate, so I ducked around the back. Confrontations didn’t bother me, but I was not in the mood to entice this obstacle standing between the ‘Tiger Man’ and myself.

Surprisingly there was no guard standing in my way at the back gate, only a collection of huge dead bolts I managed to melt away. I kept the noise to a minimum while opening the squeaky gate.

I looked around, scanning the area for the large yellow tent that held the prize.

The wind slightly blurred my view. I walked from vendor to vendor and tried to remember exactly were the ‘Tiger Man’s’ tent lay. The night possessed an eerie silence that sent chills into me.

“Where are you?” I whispered. “Show me.”

I walked on, stumbling towards the monkey cages. I was glad it was covered so they couldn’t see me, but I could hear their chatter from outside. Yellow an Orange. I searched for those two colors, but in the thick fog it was hard to see color. I looked into my mind and tried to reach my memories of the trailer that housed the ‘Tiger Man.’

I’m so glad Carla welcomed Tiger Man with open arms when Marianna brought him back to the cabin to be apart of their family. I’m also pleased that Carla accepted Marianna as Fanta, because it was who Marianna felt more comfortable to be and being called and referred to. I look forward to reading the next installment.

Thank you so much for sharing a beautiful story. I thouroughly enjoyed all of Broken Candle.

Beautiful epiloque, Mariana returns to get freedom to a man captive and enslaved in a circus that with one glance and only once, he had marked her, ,as a matter of fact she was free too.
Congratulation ,Allison,Thank you for contributing to this exciting novel.
