In this chapter Fanta and Dusk discuss what happened between them in the cave, and Fanta gets some bad news about her old nanny.

Here’s a link to the last chapter.

Chapter Fifteen: A Day at The Cave

“This is amazing,” Devon said, entering the room. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning.

Fanta looked a little stand-offish. She had seen this room many times, but was still amazed that nothing about it had changed after all this years. There was just as many cobwebs than she remembered, but she felt that something was missing.

“Something’s not right here,” she said. “Someone’s been here… and recently.”

She looked over at a small corner table where there lay a small pile of sand. She picked up a few grains and massaged them through her fingers.

“What’s with the dirt?” Devon asked coming over and standing beside her.

“It’s not dirt,” she said, laying the sand back on the pile. “It’s sand.”

Dusk, who was standing behind her, took a handful and lifted it to his nose. “That ain’t no ordinary sand. It’s got a Sadian smell to it. Only one Sadian I know with that power.”

“And who would that be?” Fanta asked.

“Some guy called Hoo-too Pee,” Dusk said.

“Hoo-too Pee?” Devon shouted out. “That’s impossible. That guy died decades ago in the war.”

“Bullshit,” Dusk said, getting into Devon’s face. “He just made everyone think he was died. Truth is he turned himself into a rock. He travels around with some guy called Logan.”

“Not Michael Logan?” Devon asked. Dusk just nodded, which made Devon cringe. “I wouldn’t want to mess with that guy.”

“He was here.” Dusk said. “His stink is all over this place. And this…” Dusk said, picking up a clear object lying under the table. He handed it to Fanta.

She took the small crystal. It seemed familiar to her, but she couldn’t place where she had seen this trinket before. Frustrated, she handed it back to Dusk. “It’s just a crystal.” He wore a smirk on his face, like he knew something she didn’t. “How do you know this Michael Logan?”

“I don’t,” Dusk said, sticking the crystal in his pocket. “But I know his reputation. And you?”
