Another story I have been working on for a long time. It isn’t complete yet but I hope you like what I have so far.
The sun’s rays danced across the thatched roof tops of small farm houses and regular houses that adjoined them. Plowing fields were strategically placed around each farm house. A hand built wall of stone encircled the Loleko villagers as protection from intruders. In the center of the village itself was a bell tower built of mud-hardened bricks. Twice a day the bell boy climbed up the ladder to toll the bell.
The bell had already been tolled signaling the end of the work day. The village of farmers were now settling in their homes and preparing themselves for their next work day. However, one person was still outside in the fields plowing. She worked really hard and wore the loose fitting garments of a Lolekian farmer. She possessed the familiar tan of a person whom spent most of their life out doors.
As she worked she waited for her brother to take her back home. In the mean time she was pondering over the troublesome dreams she had for the past few weeks. Try as she may, she couldn’t contemplate the meaning of her dreams but she felt they where related to her in some strange way.
In her dreams she witnessed streams of red and yellow light forming lightning bolts. It was upon a black void and in between the lightning bolts were a pair of red eyes that had no pupils and a humongous mouth with large fangs that had and excess amount of drool and saliva dripping from it. The woman swore she heard cackling coming from the ferocious mouth but she didn’t understand why she could hear it. She had been born deaf and if it wasn’t for her brother she didn’t know if she would be alive today.
The woman snapped out of her reverie when a familiar scent came up behind her. The aroma of cooking herbs and spices that was her brother’s trademark smell wafted up her nostrils. She turned around to see her brother standing with an overused apron around his shoulders.
“Come on Kayla,” Kaleb said “Dinner’s ready.”
Kayla had mastered the art of reading lips and both siblings had come up with a communication for each other long ago. She nodded as soon as her brother spoke. They both stood still a minute. A gust of wind rushed through both of them and made the crops sway. Kaleb thought his sister didn’t see his lips move and was about to sign what he said when Kayla lifted a finger. She shook her head a little and than walked towards their house.
