A compilation of many theories that are currently circulating around the internet.

There are many different ideas about the four book of the inheritance cycle. This article is intended to sum them up and give a general overview of them. The fourth book is supposed to be the final book in the inheritance cycle.

First of all, the third dragon egg. It has been confirmedthat it will be a male and that it will be green. Its current location is not known, some believe that it is still in Galbatorix’s possession. Others say that it has already hatched and that Oromis was training this rider unbeknownst to everyone else. While this is a possible theory, it is highly unlikely in my opinion. Most people who tout this theory point to the egg fragments the Eragon stumbled upon while he was working on finding Saphira. I believe that it is more likely that the egg fragments were simply there since the egg hatched sometime in the past. Another theory is that the third egg will come from wild dragons somewhere in Alagaesia.

It is most widely speculated that Arya will be the green dragon’s rider. Here are the main reasons for this theory: First, her magic is green “A flash of emerald light briefly illuminated the forest, and the stone vanished.” (Eragon, page 4) “But Arya raised her palm, shouting, and an emerald ball of energy shot from her hand, killing the Urgal.” (Eragon, page 485) “On her back was Arya: hair billowing wildly, arm uplifted, palm glowing with a nimbus of green magic.” (Eragon, page 490) Secondly, Arya’s eyes are green. The other main candidate seems to be Roran. He has incredible strength and abilities which he has used to accomplish some incredible feats (Killing 193 men by himself, wrestling an urgal…). He also had the ability to gain a following among people and the people who are under his command follow his orders well.

And finally the last part of the werecat, Solembum’s prediction. “Listen closely and I will tell you two things. When the time comes and you need a weapon, look under the roots of the Menoa tree. Then, when all seems lost and your power is insufficient, go to the Rock of Kuthian and speak your name to open the Vault of Souls.” Now we already know that the first part of the prediction has come true, since Eragon got his sword Brisingr from the piece of the meteorite that was under the Menoa tree. The vault of Souls has many theories about it. Some believe that a god in inside it. Others say that it is where Galbatorix and Murtagh have put the souls of all that they have killed. Another theory is that it is where souls go after they die, not into the void, as the elves believe but into the vault. My own personal opinion after reading all of these theories and many more, is that the vault of souls is where the Eldunari are kept and the Rock of Kuthian is the entrance to it.
