“…I think she may be a bit schizophrenic or something…You know delusional.” I couldn’t believe what she was saying. I knocked on the door anyway and they said I could go in.
She didn’t go to sleep so I had to tell her about what had just happened. She seemed very awake and frightened now. I know longer suspected her. How could I after seeing her tremble like that.
“Well I can’t sleep now, that’s just weird. I don’t want to pull over and check either. Let’s do it when the sun comes up, ok?” she said in whisper. I nodded but again we didn’t really talk much. I wondered if she suspected me too. Did she really believe that I was making all of it up?
“Hey it’s going on to five, do you want to stop at the Denny’s up ahead and grab a bite? It should be ok there and we can see if the lights really are out.” I suggested. When we got there she got out and went to the back of the car to check. She nodded at me to turn off the car and when I got out she told me what we expected all along. The lights were fine.
“Ok, so tell me again. Something about some party…” she said and shook her head to let me know that she was confused. I repeated everything that I remember from before. “Oh, wow, why didn’t I remember that? Well, I can see why you woke me up. Sorry for being such a bitch about it.” she apologized.
“Its fine, like you said before, you were drunk. So was everyone else, no one probably remembers.” We both ordered a salad which felt very cliché to both of us since we both looked like we were exhausted models. Well, maybe not THAT good. For some reason though, it bothered both of us when skinny girls only ordered salads in public. Weird pet peeve, I know.
“Do you remember who was at the party?” she inquired. I just shook my head no. “Well, that doesn’t really help but hopefully you will remember more as we go. I think it would really help.”
“How?” I asked.
“I don’t know, I just think it would help. You know so that if we do happen to see one of them everywhere we go.” Again I didn’t say anything. She had a point but I still didn’t really see how it could help. If we did see them, we’d have to have prove that they were stalking us. I just didn’t think we could get that proof.
