Parts of a novel combining mythology and Human history over a period of six days, which leads to the ultimate confrontation between Nature and mankind on the seventh day.
In The Beginning
A solitary lark spiralled higher into the flawless sky as a breeze stirred unexpectedly. With the forests leaves ringing like a million bells, a flock of geese nearby slapped their wings against the body of a mirrored lake. Clumsily taking to the air, they circled once and cried out before dissolving into the strawberry west. The day was ending and the idle flowers carpeting the meadows had already closed their eyes to the world. Wrapped in scented dreams they did not hear, nor did they care to note the eddying breath of air above them excitedly whisper.
“It’s time, it’s time.”
High above the world’s Wild Places a point of silver light sped away from the ripening Moon. And as it arched across the stratosphere the flaming body of a dragon broke free from the Sun’s fragmenting crown. Whipping up radioactive plumes of gas, its burning wings fanned out and set a deliberate course upon the solar wind.
“It is time, it is time.” The Earth cautiously agreed.
An ominous silence made of feathers settled over the land as the silver soul of the Moon accelerated towards the spirit of the noble Sun. Anticipating a catastrophic collision the world flinched. It needn’t have. At the last instance the two simultaneously veered earthward and punched through the passive sky igniting the air around them. Attempting to ensnare the ball of silver light speeding around his raging torso, the serpentine tail of the Sun God lashed out. His thunderous descent brought about a new threat as the Earth’s surface drew dangerously closer. Twisting to the right and then unpredictably to the left, he successfully anticipated the orbs dance. Catching hold of it with the tip of his tail, he snapped open his wings as his powerful talons prepared to seize the land fading into the coming night.
“It is time, it is time.” Announced the Universe.
Scrutinising the new surroundings with the fire of his unblinking eyes, the smouldering God remained protectively coiled around his prize as an unstoppable transformation began to take a hold.
Some time later, the Sun and Moon stood and watched one another in absolute reverence. Dressed in hooded vestments woven from strands of golden and silver light, they had taken a step closer to an age-old dream. Having sailed through the heavens for eons they had sighed at the world from afar. Seeing that it was a place of magic and promise, they knew that it would make the perfect garden for their child.
