Second chapter of the first book in my novel series. I’ve decided that it will be called the [Unnamed] Trilogy.

Chapter 2 Threats

The General stood in his office alone. Then he noticed that the turrets detected two friendly footmen. He pressed the intercom button and a live feed popped up with two priests standing at the blast door.

“And you two would like?” The General said into the microphone.

One stepped forward and spoke “We were requested to hold funeral for one of your soldiers.”

“Come right in then, there will be a guard to show you to the chapel.”

He then pressed a button to open the doors and turns off the screen and intercom. He heard gunshots and looked out of the window of the high command tower, and saw the turrets out front firing without a target.

He ran back to the command console and quickly types in ://Engineer-Turret

An image of a man in a yellow and orange uniform appeared on the screen.

“What is the problem, General?” The man said.

“Engineer, the front gate’s turrets are malfunctioning and wasting precious munitions. Go fix it.” The General snapped.

“I’m on it.” The engineer responded.

The screen then turned off, and the general loosed an exasperated sigh as he stepped away from the console. He turned to a wall and slammed both fists into it. He lifted them up and then punched the wall with his fist.

“Damn it! Why didn’t we heed their warning? They did it… They brought this plight upon our planet. They shattered the fucking planet! God damn it all! Ammunitions are scarce and water… drinking water was hard enough to find before the Winter…  And now… And now they hinder the rehabilitation! Damn it! I’m going to…. Going t-”

Suddenly the General stopped mid-sentence because the screen turned on by itself. He looked over to it and saw the face of the priest he spoke to not too long ago. The “priest” backed up and revealed that he was no longer wearing the holy robes.

“Hello, General” he says, almost friendlily,” I can’t believe your base fell for my priest guise too! You are the 52nd to get infiltrated by me dressed as a priest.  A whole fucking year and you guys can’t figure it out.” He said.

The General clenched his fists and gritted his teeth then yelled “God damn you and your organization to hell!”

A figure behind the so called priest stepped forward out of the shadows that concealed him. “We progress the humans, nothing more.” He said plainly.

                The screen then turns off.
