This is chapter one. Our main character is led to her prison for her sins.

Chapter 1

The air was crisp with winter threatening to come early. I looked up at the gray sky, my hair plastered to my scalp. The sword hung at my side, its blade stained red. The corpses around me did not have an effect on me. I could hear footsteps coming closer and smiled. I continued looking up at the sky and saw my breath come out in a cloud. It was cold and a single shiver ran up my spine. The forest was still around me. There were no animals to make noise and the branches on the trees were still. Even the forest ground had become hard and rigid. Blood pooled around from feet from the bodies, but I did not move. They had deserved their death for what they had done. It was horrifying to even think about. But once that sword was in my hand, I didn’t feel anything but strength.

The air was calm as fat snow flakes began to slowly drift down. After a minute, my hair was covered in fat snowflakes. I knew what the people would say when they saw me. They would say that I was just an average pretty girl who had lost her head. Black hair and strange violet eyes were just something that would cause someone to lose their mind. My pale skin was something to marvel at too.

I heard the gasp and smirked. So they were here. Time passes so quickly when it holds no meaning for you. A pretty girl of just 17. What could she possibly to that could harm people? Without moving my head or body, I looked at the villagers who had gathered. They were taking in the carnage at my feet. I watched their expressions of horror and smirked again. The smile faded as a snowflake hit my nose. I looked back up at the sky which now held white specks against a gray background. Winter had come early, just as promised.

“Why did you do this?” I heard a villager ask.

Without looking at the crowd, I replied.

“Because they were in my way.”

My voice was soft and deadly at the same time.

The villagers surged and took away my sword. I did not fight against them as they roughly pushed me towards the center of town. I passed a familiar house on the way into town and tears sprung into my eyes. Once we got to the center of town, the people holding me pushed me onto my knees. I was beginning to fade so that I wouldn’t have to see what they planned on doing with me. I was almost completely out of reality when someone stooped before me. My attention was caught by him. He seemed to understand exactly what had happened and why I did what I had done. I didn’t hear his words to the villagers as he persuaded them. I was simply trying to keep myself in one piece.
