Chapter one of the new online zombie novel, Walled City.
The zombies started to realise what was on front of them, and some of them began to climb over. Ahtu tried with all his strength, and stabbed the undead monster in the neck, just about reaching the spinal cord. He hadn’t injured it enough to paralyse it though. Ahtu took a step back as the zombie started to climb the wall. It was over quickly. This time, he took a huge swing at its neck, and it fell to the ground as its spinal cord was almost severed.
Some of the villagers started looking out of windows to see what was going on, and some were even grabbing knives and coming outside in pyjamas to help. Ahtu looked around him. The battle was going badly; a lot of his neighbours were being dragged to the ground and mauled. He kicked a zombie that was trying to go for him, and tried to stab its neck, but missed and hit the chest. He attempted to pull his knife out, but the zombie stumbled forward and almost bit him on the arm. He ran behind some villagers in pyjamas, feeling no shame at him cowardice. One of Ahtu’s neighbours attacked the zombie following him, only to be pulled down to the ground. Ahtu pushed off the zombie attacking him, luckily his neighbour wasn’t bitten. He looked closer and realised it was Markus. He also knew he had to help get these things out of the village or they would end up like the towns in the south.
Suddenly, he had an idea. He called Markus to follow him; they both ran to Ahtu’s shed. He opened the door, and pulled out a pitchfork and a spade. He handed the spade to Markus and closed the door. Thank god he lived nearby. They ran to join the battle. It was dwindling, maybe only ten zombies left. He saw at least five feasting like rats on the bodies of his neighbours. Making a quick count, he realised only six people had been wounded in this attack. Six of his neighbours he would have to kill when they turned.
The rest of the villagers were finishing off the last zombies, and Ahtu went to help. Markus ran to get the feasting ones off their meals. They attacked the undead trying to eat the dead bodies, and stabbed each corpse through the head or neck so they wouldn’t move.
As the battle closed to a halt, the villagers of Newula realised what they were up against. There would be more hordes like this, perhaps bigger. They must do everything they could to build a wall and defend the village or they would end up like the dead zombies burning in their fire.
