(The sorry state of a nation).

In Nigeria and around the world, it’s a thing of pride to work with the government. Our case is different, this is not because you are seen as being in a place of service to others but because it is a general belief that that person is connected and it is also a given that the person in question has the ability to spend a huge amount of money without blinking. The government of Nigeria is corrupt and keeps getting worse by the day.

Take a tour round the country and see the conditions of the roads. None except those in Abuja (main city) are in good condition. Gradually, the infrastructures in other parts of Nigeria have depreciated and would be better if said to be in a state of decay. Take for example the road leading to Nigeria’s “premier port, Apapa” is now a bad sight; taking that route means that one has agreed to spend over 2 hours to get by: this is due to

1. The bad road.

2. Trucks and oil tankers that have made the main road (which is a highway) their parking space. N.B. These trucks are mostly owned by these people in government; so, who would you report to?

The government that is supposed to fix the roads has still never show any form of concern. They’ll wait till the road is totally condemned before something is done. What they do would be to inflate the cost of fixing it through the construction company and make money for themselves.

The NNPC just began its campaign on deregulation. The question is: to what extent will that go to alleviating the masses from the long run poverty state? Now, queues are beginning to return to the filling stations because of the fear of the government who might wake up tomorrow and enforce it on the Nigerian people. Mind you, the children of the people implementing these policies are all in one school or the other in Europe or the U.S.A.  Going by their salaries, where would they have gotten that amount of money to finance their children’s schooling?

We live in a corrupt society and it isn’t funny anymore. Other countries are corrupt too but Nigeria, to the best of my knowledge spearheads them. In here, we live in fear because one would wake up and a bill is passed by the government and these greedy leaders (both previous and current interests) are not bothered because it will never affect them; after all, before passing the bill, they made financial provisions that would cushion them from the inconveniences.

Remember these men siphoning our money can be brought to book because they have not done well in their service to us. They will continue in this, passing on the keys to their children and children’s children except we say a big NO to them today.

This dream is not farfetched but because the youths are not waking up to it, we will continue to live in that slumber land.

It’s time we begin to wake up to the new sound; this is a sound of freedom.
