Modern-Day Role Play/play/story script for teens to act out. Story is in rhyme and is based on the ancient story about Daniel in the Lions’ Den. Modern-day Dan is an orphan and tries hard to live as a Christian in a Western country. At his High School, a gang of kids prepare a trap for him and he is betrayed, framed and imprisoned, just as Daniel in Ancient times. Guns, bombs, and the Armed Police are part of this modern-day play.

Narrator reads the rhyming script while actors play out the action.

For filming – actors, (other than Daniel) wearing various disguises can play multiple characters, obviously at different times.

Characters:

  • Daniel
  • Foster Parents
  • Principal
  • Teachers
  • Good Friends
  • Bad gang
  • Detective
  • Police
  • Armed Defender’s Squad

Narrator reads Poem/Story:

Daniel was a refugee, from a foreign land,

His parents had been killed, for their Christian stand.

In his adoptive country, For God, Dan stood tall,

The couple that fostered him, could find no fault at all.

They lived in a little house, Beside the school, so close,

Dan could walk across the road, As off to work his folks would go.

Daniel believed in God, and through the day he prayed,

He was a faithful kid, his elders he obeyed.

He rose up in the school, to the highest place in class,

Trusted by the teachers, they gave him privileged tasks.

Most pupils in the school, liked and trusted Dan,

They asked for his advice, and respected his Christian stand.

He influenced others for good, Shone bright for the Lord,

In everything he did, he gave praise to His God.

But a jealous band looked on, they wanted to bring Dan down,

They hunted for his faults, but found him true and sound.

They knew Dan read and prayed, he did this all the time,

They looked to find a way, to make Dan seem out of line.

Then, they saw him praying, before his lunchtime food,

They complained to the Principal, that Café prayers were rude.

A notice on the board was posted:

“Lunch-time prayers are banned,

Anyone praying here,

Before the Board will stand.”

Daniel kept on praying, with hands clasped and open eyes,

The Principal was called and really was surprised.

Daniel was the perfect pupil, Never had Dan been bad,

He did not want to blame him, but no choice now he had.

Daniel faced the Board, and again his prayers were banned,

“You will keep out of the Café,” they said,

“You won’t eat there again.”

Things settled for a while, Dan prayed and ate outside,

The jealous gang they watched him: So many were on Dan’s side.

Kids grouped around Daniel and listened as he read and prayed,

Kids liked to be around him, they met with him each day.

The gang hatched evil plans, They stole to Daniel’s house,

They planted weapons in his room -

Dan’s foster folk, at work, were out.

They filled the garden shed, from stuff they had collected,

Then they made a secret call, to a Policeman, the Chief Detective.

Swiftly, the Police, they made a raid,

At the house where Daniel lived,

They bagged up all the weapons,

And called the Bomb Squad in.

It was a desperate scene, In that house beside the school,

While most students were aghast, the gang thought it was real cool.

In the middle of the field, While Daniel played his best,

The Armed Police they came for him -

This was to be Dan’s greatest test.

In front of all the school,

They arrested Dan and read his rights,

They took him off in handcuffs,

While the gang clapped with delight.

Questions flew at Daniel, he spent that night in prayer,

Behind bars in the jail, he felt God with him there.

Neighbours who lived near Dan’s house,

Reported what they saw,

Those witnesses, they’d seen the gang,

Creeping in the door.

With bags of stuff, and boxes,

In and out, they’d gone,

Not noticing behind curtains, were eyes, watching on.

The Armed Police made another raid, upon the gang’s headquarters, The stash was mind-boggling, Big weapons, bombs and mortar.

The gang, by framing Daniel, A massive trap had set,

Wherein they fell themselves, Their own downfall they soon met.

It was so obvious to all, the innocence of Dan,

Set free, and applauded, His welcome back was grand.

In front of all the school, the Principal gave God thanks,

For protecting them all from evil, violent cranks and pranks.

Praise was given too, that Daniel had shone so bright,

Much Glory went to God, for His Victorious Brilliant Light.
