How Marc Antony was so successful at swaying the crowd to support him after Ceasar had been assassinated by the conspirators.
How would you persuade a big group of people? Brutus and Marc Antony both were faced with that challenge. Marc Antony uses a lot of propaganda techniques in his speech, to the people of Rome, to persuade the crowd to the people at Caesar’s funeral.
Marc Antony first used verbal irony, Which is were you say something good about someone then you say another thing in the same sentence, to try and sway the people of Rome. In his speech he started by saying something good about Caesar and something about Brutus. Like when Marc Antony said, “So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus Hath told you Caesar was ambitious. If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Caesar answered it.” Marc Antony not only uses Verbal irony he also uses another techniques like Plain folks.
Marc Antony also uses Plain folks, when you say that you are just like normal people and not someone special, when he was talking to the people of Romans, and telling them how Caesar was not any different than them. He used that when he said, “I rather choose To wrong the dead, to wrong myself and you.” Marc Antony not only used verbal irony and plain folks he also used card staking.
Card staking is the 3rd and final technique Marc Antony used. Marc Antony uses card staking, which is when you build up your speech, when he said, “If you have tears, prepare to shed them now.” Marc Antony not only persuades the people of Rome he got them to go and burn Brutus’s house down.
Marc Antony persuaded the people of Rome by using three different techniques of propaganda. So Marc Antony persuaded a large group of people by using a lot of different techniques of propaganda. Marc Antony wanted to get revenge on the people who killed Caesar by persuading them by telling them the truth about Caesar and how he no different than them.
