This play was originally recorded and broadcast on the web during the reign of Prime Minister Howard. It was pulled “under advisement” of loss of income following complaints from highly placed personnel. It was subsequently performed live in two small theatres in Perth, Australia. The opening section from “Run Video” was filmed and played as a media show 1st Act on a screen on stage. The remainder was performed as a monologue by a very talented actor. I will not name her as she is still working.

The Lawyer and the Reporter were played by the stage manager.

For non Australians IR is Industrial Relation reform introduced by The Howard Government which effectively reduced protection for workers from exploitation by the unscrupulous to zero. The Anti “Terrorism” legislation allowed for detention without charge, made it an offence to actually tell anyone that you or someone else had been detained. The UK and the US as well as many other countries introduced similar legislation around the same time. In addition the “Crime” of Sedition was put back on the books with increased draconian penalties.

To my knowledge no prosecution for “Sedition” has yet made it to court.

The National Australia Card does not yet exist despite several attempts by the Howard regime to introduce a national identity card containing all personal information including medical and criminal records, DNA and fingerprints.. They also proposed that the identity card be combined with the driving licence; this proposal was rightly regarded with suspicion by most Australians.

This is why I am here, to tell you what happened. All of it. It was a beautiful day, my boyfriend and I, we actually had a day off together. We both have to work shifts you see, Not like my Dads day when you actually had a working week. So we just don’t get to see each other very often, well not to talk, or make love or, well much of anything. Well, if you don’t do the shifts then , well the boss just finishes you, that’s it. No reference and that means no job. And you have to work the hours just to live 50 – 60 hours a week each me and my man. We had kids see. School fees. That’s “user pays now” Daycare,, nightcare, its not cheap.
