The Staff of Ages

(Curtains rise)

SCENE  1

(Setting: In a castle’s throne room. There is a king in a throne Center. Takes place in a fantasy world around the Middle Ages.)

MESSENGER

(Runs in from Stage Left)

My Lord! The Staff of Ages has been stolen by a group of Orcs!

KING

That is grave news. We must send a party of adventurers to retrieve it.

MESSENGER

Yes, my Lord.

(Messenger runs off Stage Left)

KING

How the Staff could be stolen if it is so heavily guarded? And what will happen when the Orcs use it for evil?

(Messenger, ZigZag (ninja), Aladar (zephyr), and Spoot (half elf)  enter Stage Left. ZigZag walks in zigzags.)

MESSENGER

My Lord, this party has volunteered to quest for the Staff.

ZIGZAG

I am ZigZag. I am a ninja from the Western part of town.

ALADAR

I am Aladar, Zephyr Bounty Hunter from the East.

SPOOT

And I am Spoot, the Half-Elven fighter, thief, and mage.

KING

Splendid. Why have you chosen to go on this adventure?

ZIGZAG

The Staff must be returned before the Orcs use it for evil.

ALADAR

The Orcs have taken possession of it. There is a large bounty on orcs on the East side of town. Ten gold pieces apiece.

SPOOT

The Orcs reside in a large dungeon complete with secret passageways, gems, indoor lakes, traps, and most of all, it’s partially underground. Although I practice many types of spells, Necromancy is my favorite. This dungeon is the perfect place for me and my skeletons to live in peace.   

KING

Great. You shall begin tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, buy your share of healing potions and magic items.  

ZIGZAG

Yes, my Lord.

(Blackout)

SCENE 2

(Setting: On a path in unpopulated  area. SPOOT, ZIGZAG, ALADAR Center stage.)

SPOOT

I  can’t wait until that dungeon is under my control!

ZIGZAG

Um… We are going to get the staff, primarily.

ALADAR

And Orcs!

SPOOT

Fine! So we seriously annihilate the Orcs, recover an almighty staff, and THEN I get the dungeon.

ZIGZAG

Whatever you say.

ALADAR

Yeah, but I….. (Growling noise) What is that?

SPOOT
