Written on my 18th birthday.
“18″
Today I could’ve bought
a lottery ticket, registered
to vote,
made it legally
with a man
But I only bought cigars,
cherry Tiawana brand.
Today I granted thought
tropical-vacation-taking bird
back float
under the palm tree
of my hand.
“What would you like for dinner?”
“No!” answered her little lamb.
Today I blindly sought
what my worldly child ears never heard,
the moat
smoke rings come to be,
pro I am
before my laughing-scolding
mother turning on the fan.
Because today was a joke.
