For National Poetry Month.
On April 30, the last day of National Poetry Month, I did a reading for Mrs. Silva’s 3rd grade class, and was well-received. After a discussion about what make poetry an art form, I sponsored a contest among the children.
Each and every poem I received was wonderful, a lot of energy, creativity and talent was on display.
The results are in, and here I present to you the second and third place poems, together. The winner will appear in a separate post, holding the place of honor.
I’m Sitting On The Beach by Sophia R.
I’m sitting on the beach, I see the white seashells.
I’m sitting on the beach, I see the white seagulls.
I’m sitting on the beach, I hear the seagulls squawking.
I’m sitting on the beach, I see the dogs walking.
I’m sitting on the beach, I look out at the sea,
But then I feel a raindrop on me.
I hear the wind howling,
I hear the dogs growling.
The edge of the ocean starts to foam.
I turn around and run my way home.
Shooting Stars by Miki S. & Anna S.
There’s lots of stars around the world.
Glinting stars, small stars, big stars.
But don’t forget, the best is shooting stars.
They flash, they gleam all through the night.
Shooting stars are really great.
What is your wish for this special star?
