There are millions of children being abused every year,it comes in forms such as physical abuse, emotinal abuse, neglect, sexual abuse and domestic violence and though many of us cannot even comprehend how someone could do something as evil and as sick as that to an innocent child it does happen. This is a poem I wrote for them, many people would not even touch on this subject but I believe it creates awareness and I have to admit as I was writing it my heart was pouring out for these little ones that cannot defend or protect themselves.

Poor little baby
Not a soul in the world to care
It began at two
Always living his life in fear

He was five now
A big boy or so he was told
His fathers hand across his face
No matter how big
It always felt cold

Eyes stinging with tears
A slap
A punch
A kick in the ribs

Eyes stinging with tears
Hiding in the closet
With his fears

Scared to death
Broken ribs
Blackened eye
The pain was bad
But it hurt to cry

If daddy ever found out
He still sucked his thumb
He’d be beaten so badly
His body would turn numb

Alone in the darkness
Dreaded feelings
Sinking to despair
Maybe someone
Would come to help him
He was a big boy now
Maybe someone would start to care

Nice ode to abused children. I hope government could strengthen policies about child protection.

Very sad these things happen all of the time. I wrote one of these poems too after hearing about a little girl on the news. Its heartbreaking. So much so that I try not to think about it because there is not much I could even do besides the small things.

The saddest thing in the world is an abused child. We hear it over and over. Not long ago a child was found kept in a small coop in the back yard without room to stretch out or stand up. These parents should be locked up forever.

All too common these days too. Great piece to raise awareness on this subject.
