This poem was inspired by a story I heard, mixed with some of my own depression. However it is not a true story that happened in my life.

Source

I walk out to the middle of the ocean,
Let the water weigh me down
I take a deep breath, and slowly exhale
Preparing to let myself drown

Instead, I just float
As the water’s tides crash
Wondering if I stopped myself for a reason,
Or just got scared

So, I swim out even further
Hoping to get too tired to swim back to shore
No one is guarding the waters to rescue me
If I were to swim out even more

But someone must have been watching,
I see a flashing light
A boat out in the ocean,
Saved my life

That is a sad situation for anyone to be in. A very well written piece.

Reminds me of Normandy for some reason, a carbon copy of Lowell\’s The Quaker Graveyard in Nantucket

Gosh you are a good swimmer and lucky too. I can’t even imagine the scenario you presented. Inspiring!
