At the Atocha station
In Madrid, Spain
There’s a botanical garden
Like no other
- – -
It was a major project
That came into existence
With the 1992 Universal
Exposition
- – -
From a huge decrepit terminus
A Spanish contemporary artist
Rafael Moneo designed
And created this masterful work
- – -
Moneo organized the Atocha
Station into a splendid
Artistic display
With cavernous glass
That housed a greenhouse
With tall tropical pants
- – -
This greenhouse boasts
7-thousands plants
Belonging to some 400 species
That were specially selected
To be compatible to the space
And Spanish climate
- – -
This botanical garden
Has evolved to become
A palmarium
Because it was observed
That certain palm trees
Lived happier lives
In the Castilian sunshine
Since they are protected
From harsh Spanish winters
- – -
In modern times such gardens have
Become familiar at shopping centers
Malls, courtyards, walkways, atria
And between buildings
