I once had a friend from Burgundy. Life separated us. Memories and hope do remain.

 In the 1990s, I had a friend,

Claude, who originated from Charolles, Burgundy,

I remember on a beautiful day,

We went to the Château of Pierrefonds.

That was a true discovery for Claude

Who was amazed the way

I explained and shared my passion for Heritage,

Claude said I would love Charolles and

Promised one day we would go.

In the evening we had a fine dinner

Our hearts spoke,

And love we shared.

But life decided another way,

I had to leave for America

And never did we talk to each other.

Where are you Claude?

As years have gone.

Would you recognize me?

Would you still love me?

May I, one day, have the response!

Great write my friend. At times we are taken away to different places where we get separated from our good friends for long periods of time. I hope you shall meet your special friend again sometime soon Francois.

you are such a sentimental person (just the same as me is something I wanted to say)… friends come friends go, how many will treasure true friendship, I’m glad you do.

This is one of those rare pieces from you, my friend, and I can feel your heart in this. I can somehow relate to it as well. I wish I could help you find Claude but for the mean time, I can only continue praying for your happiness and well-being. You know this,Francois. Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart with us. We\’re just around… Jesus and I. Take care. Btw, the Chateau of Pierrfonds is beautiful.

That’s really nice. It’s a message that’s sure to be found. Good one; Francois! I especially love the unstructured feel to it – almost as if written on parchment and placed in a bottle.

Always sad to let go of a friend, sometimes life just gets in the way of maintaining friendships-especially when we live in different countries.

what a story in the poem… nice one.

  • Brewed Coffee on Jan 28, 2011

Who knows? Claude might chance upon this poem, read it, and realize it’s you! Sometimes, we have to go separate ways, walk on separate roads. Maybe, when we least expect it, the roads will once again intersect. We can only hope…and pray for it. Meanwhile, life goes on :-)

Great friends are easily lost, but you need to take more effort to find your friend!

  • Goodselfme on Feb 8, 2011

treasuring the time spent with someone very special brings to my mind a quote “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all”. Well done prose with deep feelings. Hopefully you will again meet and renew your original feelings another time too.
