Often times, children are oddly fascinated about boxes on Christmas, as opposed to the gifts they contain.

Sometimes, you wonder if you should just get small children boxes for Christmas, as they tend to play with them more than their new toys at first.

Each and every year, the presents are wrapped underneath the tree.

For and wide as the eye can see.

The gifts glisten in the light, the thought that is put in them is just right.

As children toss and turn at night.

Christmas morning cannot soon enough.

The wait is very tough.

Yet, as children open their gifts, all of the clothes, the games, and the toys.

That should really bring a smile to the faces of little girls and boys.

There is one thing that strikes their eye.

And still after these years, people are baffled about why.

Yet all of these gifts the children seen, there is one thing that just rocks their socks.

The thing that the gifts came in, that box.

Imaginable runs wild, as the gifts lay forgotten, ignored.

You wonder if they will ever mean much more.

Yet that large square shape of cardboard is all they see.

Beyond all of the gifts that are wrapped around the tree.

You see a box has many possibilities, the key to many dreams.

It might be just a box to you, but things are beyond all it seems.

All we want is a box this Christmas Day.

It leads to an adventure that we can all play.

A box strikes the imagination of the youth.

At least it’s not candy for a box.

Just forget it all on this day.

Parents often wonder if these gifts are something that they pay.

A box contains adventure, possibilities, and drama.

That you don’t have to save for your Mama.

To you it might just be an elaborate square of cardboard.

But to children, a box is just something that they won’t be bored.

That box will allow them to broaden their minds.

Their imagination just unwind.

A box has many possibilities, that the adult mind cannot comprehend.

Those children, it is joy to see them pretend.

A box for Christmas is what we see.

The possibilities of a box will set you free.

I love it. It’s sooooo true. My sisters and I would take the boxes and create homes for the dolls. Decorate the insides with fabric, make furniture, beds and pillows.

Great poem! And so true. I think the perfect present for imaginative kids would be a box within a box within a box within a box…

Great article. Funny, because I love to use different sizes of boxes to “hide” the contents and make for more guessing…

    Nice work Matt!
Utterly true too. When mine were little I spent hours helping to turn a box into a car – complete with seat belts, wheels, engine and number plates!! Such fun. Ah yes, I miss those days. Now the boxes HAVE to have something rather expensive inside!!

Children’s mind is really amazing. Indeed happened to me, my daughter loved playing with the boxes much more than with the presents inside. Their psyche we’ll never understand.

Children are very curious. Boxes are geometric figures.

Boxes if very colorful can be transformed into forms of art.
