I think it`s the best kind.
A special gift when I was young,
was truly very rare.
But all I thought of when I was five,
was a brand new teddy bear.
He was brown and warm and fluffy,
and exactly one foot tall.
With eyes that looked like sapphires,
he was the best bear at the mall.
My parents told me one day,
I could have a teddy bear,
But right then we had to pay the bills,
and we needed clothes to wear.
My Dad went off to work each day,
on his little fishing boat.
And all he had to keep him warm,
was a worn out brown wool coat.
He worked in freezing weather,
and never showed despair.
Yet all that I could think of,
was a brand new teddy bear.
That year on my birthday,
I said a little prayer.
Hoping that my birthday gift,
would be my teddy bear.
I ripped off all the paper,
and the box I opened wide.
I couldn`t believe my eyes that day,
when I saw what was inside.
I looked down at a teddy bear,
and tears caught in my throat.
Because the teddy bear I looked down at,
was made from Daddy`s coat.
He didn`t have those sapphire eyes,
and his coat was kind of worn.
The same worn out brown wool coat ,
that had kept my Daddy warm.
I looked up at my Mom and Dad,
and quietly asked them why.
Daddy handed me the teddy bear,
and told me not to cry.
He said the coat was too small anyway,
and it was getting hard to wear.
So your mother sewed with love from us,
a brand new teddy bear.
