I wrote this poem when I was a reading teacher in the public schools.
All children can learn to read no matter what their special need.
It all begins with an early seed and grows quickly into a tall weed.
Once planted in their mind, no child is left behind.
Reading allows the mind to escape with wonder
whether they read about friends, animals or thunder.
From funny, scary or educational, all books can be motivational.
To explore the imagination and bring out a child’s creation.
These rewards need no explanation.
The ability to read shows certain confidence
and is a great accomplishment.
Whether you’re eight or eighty…
The benefits of reading will have life-long meaning.
