How it feels for a mother to have a mentally challenged child, how it feels for the child, and the way the world looks at it.
A child stands alone
Enveloped in darkness and despair,
Tortured by her mere existence;
Beseeching eyes crying for help,
Help she knows in her heart will never come.
A child stands alone,
Wondering; How could this be?
Why me?
What will become of this small life?
A child stands alone
Acknowledging her differences
Knowing not what to make of them,
Praying, always praying to be like the others.
A child kneels alone
Eyes lifted to Heaven and God
Asking, always asking;
What happened?
And, as it always was, silence is still her only answer.
A mother stands alone
Hearing her child’s screaming soul
Feeling her total anguish,
Hoping for a better life
Heartbroken, knowing it would never be.
As night falls
A mother cries alone
Cursing the world for it’s lack of understanding,
Devastated by all the things that never were and never would be,
Wishing she could carry it all for the child who stands alone.
