A cow causes a farmer to change its mind about having its beef.

Daisy was a cow

That got my attention

From the time she was a calf

- – -

I’ve been looking

Into my neighbor’s barn

To see her from the day

That she was born

- – -

One thing that struck me was

She didn’t seem like other calves

So I waited until she was auctioned

To bid on her

- – -

I wanted to raise her

As a milk cow and for beef

But I could feel that Daisy

Was unhappy about this

- – -

She grew as a free ranging cow

Roaming the pasture daily

Where she ate grass

And living happily in a field

With other cows

- – -

She grew up to be able

To be milked by hand

And I sat on a stool

Every morning with a pail

Under her

- – -

But as she grew older

She knew that her time

Was drawing near to be slaughtered

- – -

She never cooperated

In having calves herself

And would escape via the fence

- – -

I could see the sadness

In her eyes

I understood why she didn’t

Want to have calves

That she knew would grow up

Only to be slaughtered

I decided

That Daisy would no longer

Be turned into beef

But live out her life

Happily with me

You write so well that I could feel for this cow. Good poetry and thank you for sharing.

Any pet becomes one of family,a lovely sentiment and an apt diagram and other pictures too.

I couldn\’t eat a pet. I don\’t eat much meat at the best of times anyhow.

I used to have about 160 of them and of course I couldn’t afford to let them all die of old age but it would have been nice as I did grow attached to many of them.
