A Cup of Coffee

A cup of coffee is my favored elixir.

       It wakens me from my morning stupor,

Shakes off my midday slumber

       And keeps me alert and limber.

A cup of coffee is my constant companion,

       In times of distress and caution.

I enjoy sipping a cup or three every day,

       Except when I was pregnant and instructed to keep it at bay.

A cup of coffee is what I enjoy.

       Sharing it with my husband multiplies the joy.

May it be in a swanky restaurant or quaint cafe,

       Good conversation and mugs of latte make my day!

A cup of coffee is a sleepyhead’s delight,

       May it be a cold frappe or warm latte.

Yes, you can call it a caffeine fix.

       But, I prefer it over smoking and an alcohol mix.
