How I feel about the grandson I have never seen in person. He lives in Japan.

I love my baby grandson, Ricky.
He’s such a cute little fellow to me.
He lives so far away in Japan,
A strange country across the sea.

He’s growing up at alarming rate.
He’s very nearly a year and a half.
When he toddles around he looks so sweet,
And he always makes me laugh.

He’s a child of the modern world.
Quite a technophobe he’s become.
His fingers tap expertly on the laptop,
And he’s always making calls on the phone.

One morning he woke his dad up.
Sitting with the phone on Dad’s chest.
He had redialled one of his colleagues at work
Who was chairing a board meeting, no less.

His father was not very amused
At being told off and woken from sleep.
He scolded the little rascal quite firmly
And planted him back on his feet.

But something had caught Ricky’s eye.
A camera lay close by on the table.
He opened it up and before anyone knew.
He’d taken all the photos he was able.

There were chair legs, rugs and a cup.
And half a shoe with a chewed up lace.
Then he turned the camera on himself.
And dropped it as it flashed in his face.

His dad took him to the shopping centre
A fire extinguisher with a loop he did spot
He thought it was fun to visit each one
And pull to see if they’d come out or not

He’s ever such a funny little character,
Who grows increasingly more enthusiastic.
I just wish I could see him in person
But for now the internet is fantastic.

Gosh Christine, you don’t realise what you have done by writing this. You have given me hope, my son has just emigrated to Canada, my girls are in the Uk and we are in Cyprus, in a year or so, I hope to be a first time Grandmother (YaYa in Greek by the way), I was so worried about not being part of their lives, now I know I will be, bless you for sharing your little guy with us, you lifted my heart tonight.

  • Christine Ramsay on Dec 18, 2008

Thanks for saying so Glynis. Yes you can certainly stay in touch on Skype. I have not missed out on anything except perhaps hugs with my little grandson. Skype is brilliant as I stay intouch with my family both close by on camera and it Italy and it costs nothing so go for it.

    Love Christine
