Poem about the writing life.
What is it you look for when you start to trawl the web, in search of something that will make you smile?
Is it comedy or fact based stuff that draws you, and must the writer entertain you all the while?
You may have a sense of humour that might mean your reading interests can be quite dark
in which case you find it difficult to get that perfect piece where your eye wants to park
You rest a while, in consumer mode, absorbing the words on that chosen page
comments that move you to smile or to frown, to chuckle or feel the onset of rage
those are the hooks that the writer employs as they fish for your sweet reading bite
that enticing phrase or that brutal barbed comment that fills you somehow with delight
The secret of writing an interesting piece is to feel that you really give of yourself
that you lay bare your opinions for all to see and refuse just to sit on the shelf
You as the writer must always be honest, for the readers always see through the crap
your writing style tells them just who you are. You might as well draw them a map.
The only thing that you ever need is the belief that your writing is worthy of their attention
that when they talk about the good stuff they read your work always gets a mention
the only accolade you a writer should ever want is to be that your work is so good, indeed
that anyone happening, when browsing, to chance upon it will be sure of a damn good read
