A poem I wrote as a series of couplets. Intended to go along with rap-like beat and piano.
bed late
up early
new date
start working
no sleep
drink coffee
you can do it
start walking
to the car
ignition
cigarette
ignition
twenty minutes
stay focused
freeway driving
so ghostly
wait on tables
two face-em
too damn tired
to remember faces
sweep up
check out
can’t nap
get out
piano is lovely to me
touch keys
make noise
melodies
conjoined
soul opened
mind closed
what happens next
no one knows
i touch a key
i’m in the zone
finally
i am at home
making music
i can’t wait
the beat i
manipulate
here and there
and everywhere
kind of like,
well, air
to the sky
through the ground
can’t get away
from the sound
goes in your ear
into your head
still with you
as you lay in bed
the last final moments
you’re almost asleep
then you hear
that moving beat
bed late
again
cycles start
but have no end
up early
new date
start working
no sleep
drink coffee
you can do it
start walking
to the car
ignition
cigarette
ignition
twenty minutes
stay focused
freeway driving
so ghostly

two face-em
too damn tired

but have no end
well, the end.
