A girl watches her father get on a plane with a one-way ticket in his hand…

“A FATHER’S DEPARTURE”

She stands by the airport window,

Her hand on the cold, foggy glass,

Watching her father

Get smaller and smaller

As he walks onto the plane.

Tears start to run down her face

Knowing her father has left her

With a one-way ticket in his hand.

Even her mother’s soothing touch

Does nothing to comfort her.

Even the presence of her mother

Will not bring her father back.

Aw, this is such a sad, heartbreaking read. Very emotional. I just want to hug the little girl. Great job.

You touch on a universal and sadly and seemingly a timeless theme of this life/world, Lena. A compelling write. Thank you.

This is a great job. Extremely moving, and like Regis said, it is timeless ~ the feeling could be for any loss ~ plane or otherwise taking a parent or loved one away. I was very sad at the end of this poem because you brought me in.
