This poem is about why children and parents alike should learn to enjoy the days of childhood. Each person only gets one childhood per lifetime and those days go by so fast that they seem to be only a few days. There will be no do-over, so try to fully enjoy those few days of childhood.

Our childhood days are a wonderful time of life.  Children and parents alike should learn to enjoy these days of childhood. Children, don’t try to grow up too soon; enjoy being a child. The days of responsibilities will come soon enough. Parents, don’t let responsibilities keep you from spending as much time as you can with your child. Each person only gets one childhood per lifetime and those days go by so fast that they seem to be only a few days. There will be no do-over, so try to fully enjoy those few days of childhood.

A Few Days of Childhood

My beautiful baby

With sparkles and laughter in your eyes

And smooth velvety skin

I love when your fingers

Wrap tightly around my forefinger

I savor each day, precious childhood

And I never want to let go.

I blinked my eyes one day

Then a toddler was running around

Learning and exploring

Where had my baby gone

I grab you in an impulsive hug

Trying to hold on to your childhood

And I never want to let go.

I went to work one day

Then seemingly came home to a teen

Kindergarten years, gone

Grade school, past history

You’re now smart, but a little sassy

I feel it slipping away – childhood

And I still don’t want to let go.

I took a nap one day

Then woke with silver strands in my hair

And curled up beside me

A grandchild fast asleep

A marvel – my child now has children

So precious few, the days of childhood,

Enjoy – too soon you must let go.

    hold a childs hand,
    as long as you can
for soon the child will be,
    no more a child,
    but a grown up man,
    nay a woman…
    then they will hold
    some one else\’s hand
    my friend
    hold this child\’s hand…

Extraordinary poem. There is no doubt that childhood is the best period of a person’s life. Best Wishes.
