Poem about civil war in African countries such as Sudan and Sierra Leone. Very visual and gives viewers a different perspective on civil war in the eyes of a child.

Look at the girl who has AIDS
Caught it from someone strange during a raid
Her village now lays in dismay
The girl is alone because she’s a disgrace
What can she do when she’s only 8
Look at the boy who carries Grenades
Brainwashed from a dangerous brigade
Taken away at such a young age
He doesn’t even remember his name
And all he ever thinks about is rage
Once he led a raid
In a village that now lays in dismay
The boy spread a disease throughout his crusades
What can he do when his life could end by a blade
He is only 11 years of age
Look at the girl
Inside, she’s so afraid
Outside, she wears strength on her face
She has no choice because she raising her mother’s babe
Day and night she prays
For the babe’s life to end before it comes of age
The babe also has AIDS
If the sister is the first to decay
The babe will be alone with no one to play
What can she do when her odds are outweighed
Look at the boy
He’s become insane
He is dying of AIDS
But he never displays his pain
Slowly his body decays
With his last couple breaths he remembers his name
But it’s too late
Look at the girl
She continues to pray
But she feels betrayed
Her body is dying away
The babe is loosing its strength
It can’t even lift its own weight
So it lies on the dirt and fades away
The girl is amazed
The babe is in a better place
She feels so much pain
She lies on her mat made of hay
The ground doesn’t feel so great
All she can do is wait for her body to suffocate
All of the sudden she hears her heart rate
It’s beating so slowly and but she can’t wait
Slowly her eyes begin fade
Her breath is shortly delayed
She thanks this world for its marvelous grain
She wonders what she did to deserve this fate
She was only 8
