What do you consider to be a good day? Do great and notable things need to occur? I’ve come to believe that everyday I wake up is a good day. Even more so when, at it’s end, I’ve seen more good than bad.

I lay my head upon the pillow
Having done all I set out to do
Able to rest easy, secure in the knowledge
I have done my duty
Accomplished my goals
Stood as a good soldier, a good steward
Over what has been placed
In my hands, my responsibility
Job, family, home, friends
Obligations fulfilled
I can close my eyes; say a silent prayer of thanks
This has been a good day
No calls to tell of illness or death
Financial troubles, homes lost
Layoffs or divorces
Teenagers in trouble or out of control
Seems as though for now
All is on an even keel
For those I know and love
Turning off the ringer on my phone
I breathe deeply and exhale…
Today has been a good day
A gift, every moment precious
A day to live, love and forgive
Let go of past hurts and disappointments
Always grateful for what I have and
For the tragedy that failed to occur
The accident that could have happened,
And didn’t this day
Still breathing and above ground
Health and strength to do those things
I needed to
Drifting off to sleep, exhausted I realize
Today was a good day
