The World Gymnastics Championships last week showed gymnastics of such a high standard. This is a favourite sport of mine as I coached gymnastics for many years.

Through the air in fearless flight

The twists and turns brought such delight

To watching crowds who gasped in awe

At the daring vaulting that they saw.

*

A young girl leapt onto the beam

Her balance and poise were quite supreme.

She bravely flicked and jumped so high,

That four inch beam she would defy.

*

And on sprung floor astonished eyes

Observed true talent win the prize.

Gold medals for routines of class

A reward no gymnast could let pass.

*

And on high bar the boldest tricks

Held the audience quite transfixed.

Releases, catches and somersaults

Performed without a single fault.

This festival, a feast for eyes,

Each year takes everyone by surprise

As gymnasts realise their dreams

With the most daring routines ever seen.
