A small, warm bundle of love.

A heart is like a little wren

Clasped in your hands, cupped together;

Treat it poorly, squeeze your hands tight around it

Trapping it in a cage, no air no light

And it will struggle.

Its wings beating frantically, beak spearing

Until both bird and hands are destroyed.

But treat it with love,

Softly caressing its silken feathers

And it will remain with you willingly, forever.

Its tiny head nuzzling against your thumb,

Its fragile body in your protection,

And it will lift its beak, and sing you the sweetest song you’ll ever hear.
