A poem about learning to move on in life and love.
When the cold December rain falls,
the air becomes frigid and the raw wind whips at the world.
I lose myself in this storm of emotions and temperature,
my heart freezes in time, in space.
Friends, pack mates, come to me,
Attempt to thaw my icy heart and stop the wind and rain.
Only a few know how to heal a frost bitten soul.
Set my heart ablaze with love and kindness.
How many times have I allowed that heart-fire to rage?
Once.
The wildfire burned away all emotions for others.
My heart was in his care
We separated.
Without him, the fire raged unattended until it burnt out.
Again I was in the darkness
Again I was in a frozen wasteland of emotions.
Then the moon shone through the trees
The snow was cold, but the moonlight was stronger.
I was no longer dependent on the fires of the sun for love.
I metamorphosized
A butterfly, flying into the moonlight
For whom I am grateful
For breaking me free.
