As my hubby and I are retired we are always in the house together, so the opportunity of having two weeks alone is utter bliss. The things I can get up to!!

A Heavenly Two Weeks Alone!!!

Author’s own photo

For two whole blissful weeks

I’ve got the house to myself.

My hubby has gone dog sitting

And left me on the shelf.

I know that I should miss him

But time alone is just so rare.

I’ve got a hundred things to do

Which can’t be done when he is there.

Author’s own photo

I can go out to the shops

As my clothes I need all new.

Since I’ve lost a lot of weight

That is the first thing I must do.

Author’s own photo

Then I need some kitchen gadgets

So that cooking is a treat,

Not the chore I always find it

Which has nearly got me beat.

Author’s own photo

Then I can give the house a clean through

As he won’t be watching me,

Which he’s very prone to doing

While lying out on the settee.

I can clean out all the cupboards

And throw lots of junk away.

I might even clear his wardrobe

Of old clothes he wants to stay.

                  ****

I can have my friends to visit

And go out with them to dine.

I can catch up on their news

Over a glass or two of wine.

I won’t have to rush home early

Or explain where I have been.

It’s so great to make decisions

And not worry about what they mean.

               *****

And when two weeks have passed by

And I’ve done all that I can do,

I can settle down with Hubby

For another year or two.

I’ll keep him fit and healthy

No matter what the weather,

And try to find fun things to play

Which we can do together.

Two weeks having the house all to myself would be wonderful.

  • Tina Cassello on Sep 16, 2009

All of the things you mention are what I like about living alone, but since I do have all the time free to do as I please and there are so many things I want to do, or should do, I usually don\’t do any of the important things. Maybe it would be different if I only had a couple of weeks to do them.

When my husband and kids left for a week, I cleaned everything. Having the house to yourself for two weeks definitely is bliss! Christine, you always make me laugh!

Great poem. Indeed we need to distance ourselves from our loved ones sometimes and rethink ourselves. Congratulations for achieving some prized makeover in two weeks Christine.
