In all Job’s afflictions, still he “charged not God foolishly”!

A Lesson from Job

There’s no doubt within my mind,

When Satan makes investigation,

He makes note of all the objects

High esteemed in our affections.

He would go around our houses

And observe them with such care,

As a thief would stalk the premises,

To plan invasion there!

He went one day to Job’s house,

And he took a look within,

As a thief would stalk the premises,

When planning to break in!

There’s the camels, all the livestock,

And the servants too”, said he.

They will do to suit my purpose.

I can use them admirably!

There’s a family I can get to,

Three daughters, seven sons.

All destroyed by prayerless feasting,

In the home of the oldest one.

I’m still making inventory.

I think next I’ll take his wife.

So unkindly did she charge him.

“Just curse God, and end your life!”

Satan, plough thou with Job’s heifer.

Still, oh, still you shant succeed.

For on Christ he has depended

To supply his every need!

Try, oh, try old Job’s worn body,

With the sorest of afflictions.

You will see him draw still closer

To the God of his affections!

Is your whole life made a quiver,

Where are stored old Satan’s darts?

Learn from Job these little lessons,

On thy God to keep thy heart!
